Digital nomad health insurance

Life as a digital nomad can be unpredictable. Working remotely while you travel might sound exciting but falling ill or getting injured overseas can be unsettling.

If you're a digital nomad living or working overseas for 3 months or more, we can support you with your healthcare needs. Get access to expert medical care, whenever and wherever you need it – from routine check-ups to lengthy hospital stays. You’ll always have our cover, which travels with you no matter where your next destination is.

Rely on us to meet your needs. We’re the global healthcare team from AXA, one of the world’s leading insurers.

The cost of healthcare abroad can be very expensive. With AXA expat health insurance, taking care of your health abroad is a little less daunting.

How does international health insurance work for digital nomads?

We offer five levels of cover to suit your budget and needs. With any of our cover levels, you can access private healthcare wherever you go. You’ll also have access to our AXA select network of hospitals where we can pay for your treatment directly.

Some of the benefits you receive with our global health plan include:

  • Evacuation and Repatriation1: If you can’t get the treatment, you need locally, we’ll organize for you to be taken to where you can to the nearest center of excellence.
  • Fair Priced Plans: We work hard to provide a high standard of cover whilst pricing our plans competitively.
  • Virtual Doctor service: No need to go searching for a local doctors’ clinic; with the Virtual Doctor service from AXA, you can book a medical consultation with a real doctor over the phone or by video chat – at a time that suits you, in a language of your choice2.
  • Mind Health service: Life overseas, although exciting, can be challenging at times. The Mind Health service3 connects you with qualified psychologists to help you work through whatever you’re facing.
  • Second Medical opinion service: There are plenty of reasons you might want a bit of reassurance, perhaps you just feel a long way from the comforts of home and simply want a medical professional by your side to guide you through your treatment. Whatever your situation, and wherever you are in the world, the Second Medical Opinion service can help provide the expert support and reassurance you need.

Nomad health insurance FAQ's

If your life’s journey is taking you further afield, we can help you get access to expert medical care, whenever and wherever you need it. With international health insurance for digital nomads, you pay a predictable monthly premium, which you can tailor to match your needs and your budget. So, if something does happen, you’ll have the reassurance of knowing you have world class international private medical insurance. Our plans offer digital nomad healthcare across the globe, so wherever your travels take you next, rest assured that you are covered in an emergency.

The price of international health insurance can seem expensive, but it usually offers a much greater range of cover than travel or local health insurance plans. Our plans are designed to be flexible, so our experienced team can help you find the combination that best fits your travelling and medical needs.

There are different digital nomad health insurance options which will affect the price of your premium. We’ll be happy to help talk you through these, for example:

  • Optional extras, such as outpatient, dental, and pregnancy cover
  • A variety of excess levels ranging from £100 to £10,000
  • Choosing to pay yearly – this will save you 5% on your plan
  • Extending geographical cover to include the USA

As a digital nomad you will be aware that life can be unpredictable and the unexpected can happen. So, arming yourself with international health insurance can limit large medical bills.

In some destinations valid international health insurance can be a requirement, and working under a digital nomad visa may not qualify you for state-funded insurance in the country you’re in. So, purchasing digital nomad health insurance before you travel could save you potentially paying large medical bills out of pocket.
