It’s easy to see why the Netherlands is such a popular expat destination, famous for its beautiful tulip fields, windmills and canals. It is also often described as a very healthy country, with a highly rated healthcare system. Some form of Dutch health insurance is compulsory for everyone living or working in the Netherlands.
In addition to this mandatory cover, we can offer you a private international health insurance plan that covers you around the world, for extra reassurance. This is supplementary to the local insurance requirements. You can rely on us to be there when you or your loved ones need it most. Dutch insurance can cover the costs of things like ambulance transport and hospital stays in an emergency, but not if you leave the country. With our international health insurance, you can take us with you, knowing that you’ll be covered in an emergency, no matter where you end up. We go even further to make sure you’ll be covered for emergency evacuation and repatriation, no matter which level of cover you choose. So if you can’t get the treatment you need locally, we’ll get you to where you can, and back again. We know this can be expensive, so we don’t take this out of your overall benefit allowance.
We can help you access the in-patient or out-patient treatment you need during your time in the Netherlands, which may not be covered by the compulsory local insurance. With our health plans, you’ll be covered for CT, MRI and PET scans, as well as surgical procedures, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, on all our cover levels.
You’ll have the reassurance of knowing that with our plans, you can avoid unexpected bills and have the reassurance of a predictable premium. You can choose how often you’d like to pay: monthly, quarterly or annually – whichever suits you.

You can use the independent Virtual Doctor Service to talk to a doctor in a range of languages – so no need to worry about language barriers. If you’d prefer not to head out to a doctors’ surgery, or you’re short for time, you can use the service as much as you need to, no matter the level of cover you choose.
With our international medical insurance, you can top-up your compulsory insurance, with our international health cover, whether you’re staying in Holland, or travelling elsewhere in the world. If you’d like extra cover for things like lost luggage and cancellations, you can also add international travel cover to some of our cover levels, so you can take care of both your travel and health needs with one policy.
In the Netherlands, the local insurance covers dental care for kids and limited dental treatments for adults². If you’d like to complement your local cover with private health insurance that gives you access to a wider range of dental treatment, then it’s good to know that if you have any accidental issues with your teeth, the treatment is covered on all our plans. With some of our cover levels, you can also choose to be covered for routine treatments such as check-ups, or a scale and polish.
Routine scans and midwife services are covered by the compulsory Dutch insurance, but can require additional payments from you.
