Out-patient care includes any medical service where you do not need to stay in a hospital bed. The nature and cost of the care can vary hugely, from a prescription to a more costly diagnostic test, or a range of treatments. Out-patient treatment can lead on to in-patient care depending on your diagnosis and the nature of the services you need.
With AXA’s international health insurance, you or your employees will be covered for surgical treatment, in or out of hospital. Other benefits included in AXA’s out-patient cover are consultation charges, physiotherapy, diagnostic tests, vaccinations and more. For our Foundation and Standard cover levels, you’ll have the option to include these benefits with our optional upgrade. With Comprehensive, Prestige or Prestige Plus plans, out-patient cover is already included.
If you need to stay overnight in a hospital bed, it’s classed as in-patient care (included on all our cover levels), and if not, it’s out-patient or day-patient for the day only (not included on all cover levels, some cover levels have optional upgrade only). Because of its nature, out-patient treatment can often be less costly than in-patient treatment. The latter can sometimes be needed for more severe conditions that need monitoring more closely than some out-patient treatments, where conditions can vary greatly. Often, the same condition can be treated in different ways, so it can come down to the decision of the medical provider whether the treatment is classed as in-patient or out-patient.
