International health & medical insurance in Germany

Want to find out more about health insurance in Germany? If you’re considering moving to Germany, it can take a bit of time to work out how the healthcare system works, and exactly what you’d like cover for.

To start with, it’s good to know that it’s compulsory for all residents to have medical insurance, whether that’s from the state or a locally licensed private provider in Germany. If you’re heading there, we can offer you top-up cover, with our international health insurance, which is supplementary to the compulsory cover you need, to stay there.

If you’re looking for private health insurance that covers you no matter where you go, giving you the reassurance you need to enjoy your new home whether it be for retirement, work or studying, then read on to find out more about how we can help you.

Rely on us in an emergency

We’ll be there to support you, especially when you need us most. In an emergency, you’ll know you’re covered for ambulance transport, overnight stays in hospital and surgery. All our plans cover emergency evacuation and repatriation, so if you can’t get the treatment you need locally, we’ll get you to where you can, and back again. We know this can be expensive, so we don’t take this out of your overall benefit allowance.

Whether you're in or out of hospital

We can help you access the in-patient or out-patient treatment you need during your time in Germany. For reassurance and to avoid possible longer waiting times, know that with our private health insurance plans, you’ll be covered for CT, MRI and PET scans, as well as surgical procedures, radiotherapy and chemotherapy, on all our cover levels. With some of our plans, you can also have additional cover for out-patient treatments that might not be fully covered by the public health insurance scheme, so you can avoid any unexpected, out-of-pocket payments.

Making it easier to access the care you need

We’re by your side to help you access the treatment you need, whether it’s helping you find a local doctor in Germany, or whether that’s giving you the opportunity to speak to a qualified doctor via video call or over the phone. Dental Care

In Germany, dental treatment is often covered to a basic level by the local health insurance you’ll need. If you’d like to complement your local cover with private health insurance that covers dental treatment, then it’s good to know that if you accidentally damage your teeth, the treatment is covered on all our plans. With some of our cover levels, you can also choose to be covered for routine treatments such as check-ups, or a scale and polish.

Pregnancy Cover

Routine scans are covered by public insurance, but can require additional payments from you. To avoid any unpredictable bills, you can choose to include pregnancy cover with some of our plans. Read our page on the pregnancy and maternity benefit to find out more about how this works.
