Almost a third of people worldwide are living with a mind health condition. Half the global population is affected by anxiety, stress or depression. Yet, too many are still navigating their mental health without professional support. The 5th edition of our Mind Health Report explores why and what needs to change.
According to our latest study, people currently face two barriers, on average, when trying to seek professional help for their mental health. Whether it's the cost of consultations or the invisible strain of stigma, the findings show that access to the right care is a shared challenge around the world.
33%
of respondents who haven't sought professional mental health support say the cost of consultations and treatments is the main barrier.
15%
say fear of judgement prevents them reaching out. And in countries where this fear is especially high, mental health outcomes are worse.
63%
are using AI for mental health support. But when can it help? When is it a risk? And what does responsible use look like?
'AXA Health International helps organisations better understand mental wellbeing, and equips them with the tools, knowledge and support they need to create workplaces where mental health can be discussed openly, people can recognise when they may need support, and the care they need is easier to find and even easier to access. From mental health awareness training and self-check tools to dedicated services that support employees, our global solutions help employers make mental health a business priority and not just a benefit.'
'The reality is that many people struggle to access professional support. And as mental health needs are growing, people are increasingly turning to AI for support. In this respect, it has enormous potential, both for patients and for clinicians. But its success will depend on one principle: using the technology to strengthen human care, not replace it. As a physician, I see it as a potential gateway to care but the challenges is ensuring it guides people towards better health, safely and responsibly.'
